Playboy nightclub is set to return
Monday, July 14th, 2008Hugh Hefner’s Playboy entertainment empire, built on the American magazine with its famous playmate centrefolds, is considering at least two sites in central London.
The new club would recreate one of the most famous landmarks of the swinging 60s, renowned for waitresses dressed in rabbit ears. The former London club opened opposite Hyde Park in 1966, six years after the first Playboy Club was launched in Chicago. For 15 years, the London club, on five floors, was a welcome distraction from worries such as the IRA, strikes and riots.
The original Playboy Club on Park Lane in Mayfair was closed 27 years ago after a police raid over suspected illegal gambling, despite no subsequent evidence of wrongdoing.
The most likely British site for the new nightclub is the Sports Cafe on Haymarket in London’s West End, which showed sporting events on giant screens for more than a decade. The Sports Cafe chain went into administration in January.
Time to Club4Climate
Saturday, July 12th, 2008The Club4Climate event was one of a number aiming to raise awareness about global warming by getting celebrities to attend parties where they sign a pledge to be more environmentally friendly. When the Cheeky Girls attended an environmental charity event, their outfits stole the show.
With gale force winds Monica and Gabriela Irimia decided to hit the town wearing only gold sequined bras, navy hotpants and hold-up stockings and lime-green jackets. The 25-year-old twins are renowned for their revealing outfits - but their appearance at the Embassy nightclub in London raised more eyebrows than ever.
Club4Climate director Andrew Charalambous said: “Club4Climate allows celebrities and clubbers to make a small difference to our climate by simply attending a party. Fighting global warming does not have to be costly, time-consuming or boring. We allow people to make a difference on the dancefloor.”
