Usher, Kelly and Nelly at Amika Nightclub

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

Hip hop royalty Usher, Kelly Rowland and Nelly managed to spend £110,000 on their friends at Amika nightclub in Kensington, West London.

The bar bill last night included £16,000 jeroboams of white-gold Dom Perignon.

Former Destiny’s Child singer Kelly, 27, threw the party to celebrate her final night in London after a weekend of house-hunting in Chelsea, and the launch of new album Ms Kelly.

She stepped out looking casual but glamorous in indigo jeans, a low-cut white top and high-heeled, open-toed sandals.

Nelly and Usher both opted for jeans and loose t-shirts.

The group arrived at about 11.30pm and partied until 4am.

A fellow clubber said: “Kelly was fooling around with Nelly, trying on his cap and glasses and dancing.

“They’ve been close friends since they did the Dilemma song together.”

When the stars arrived, the owner of Amika, in Kensington High Street, offered them a magnum of Cristal champagne costing £700.

Much to his surprise Nelly, Kelly and Usher refused the bottle. Nelly was overheard saying: “We don’t support Cristal.”

A member of the group explained they took the stance when the Cristal company director made some disparaging comments about hip-hop stars in 2006.

The owner sent back the magnum bottles of Cristal and bought over four bottles of Dom Perignon instead.

Usher and Nelly both performed at Radio 1’s Big Weekend festival in Maidstone in Kent at the weekend.

Alongside Madonna, Duffy and lesser known bands such as We Are Scientists and Vampire Weekend they played in front of a crowd of thousands.

One Big Weekend is the UK’s biggest free music festival.

Cocaine crackdown in the Clubs

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

Nightclubs and bars frequented by Royals and top celebrities are to be tested for cocaine in a massive clampdown on drug taking.

Police and licensening officials are to descend on premises in London’s most exclusive areas over the next six months.

Clubs like Amika and Boujis, which regularly boast Princes Harry and William among its clientele, as well as a host of famous names and City high-fliersm, will be checked.

The venues, which operate in the Kensington and Chelsea borough, will not been told when they will be visited, according to reports.

Tests will be carried out in the lavatories where officers will use swabs that turn blue when they come into contact with cocaine.

Drugs use occurs across the country and the royal borough is no different

Where traces of cocaine are found, the venue’s owners will be told to take action to discourage drug-taking.

This could include measures such as minimising the number of flat surfaces in lavatories to make taking the substance more difficult and banning more than one person from entering a cubicle at the same time.

Officials will return to the premises four to six weeks after the first visit.

Nicholas Paget-Brown, cabinet member for leisure on Kensington and Chelsea council, said: “In the vast majority of cases licensees do not want this going on.

“Together with them, our message to drug users and drug dealers is that we will not turn a blind eye and we will run them out of our pubs and clubs.

Manager of Boujis Jake Parkinson-Smith has told the Evening Standard: “We have a zero-tolerance policy against any type of drug at Boujis.

“Anyone found with drugs is immediately ejected and the police informed.

Stereophonic’s Kelly Jones hurts at Amika night club

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

STEREOPHONICS frontman Kelly Jones had to be treated by medics after slicing his arm open.

The altercation, allegedly with a member of the club’s security team, left the 33-year-old bloodied from a deep two-inch gash to his forearm.

Jones was reportedly thrown out of the Vodafone Live Music Awards after walking into the women’s toilet. During a brawl with guards, Jones’ arm was cut on a broken glass.

An ambulance was called and he was treated by paramedics on the street. Earlier in the evening the Stereophonics performed at the bash at the city’s Amika nightclub.

According to the BBC news a spokesperson for Amika London said: “We would describe Kelly’s altercation with our security as a heated tussle with both parties equally aggravated.

I don’t think Mr Jones will be on Amika’s guestlist next year.
