Robotic Barman
Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008
Better, stronger, faster — meet the one that pours drinks like no other bartender before him.
The world’s first robotic bartender made his shiny debut appearance at London’s Selfridges department store July 2nd, serving up shots of ice-cold Asahi beer to a captivated audience of thirsty customers.
Made in Japan using a combination of robotics and animatronics, Mr Asahi can serve pints in less than two minutes, knocking off 13 minutes from the average 15 minute wait.
Eight engineers have taken 200 man-hours to assemble the quarter of a ton life-size robot.
He can be all yours for £100,000 - a spokesperson from Sublime PR said.
Mr Asahi’s movements involve a large number of animatronics, developed with the use of compressed air, controlled and regulated through various valves and electrical switching mechanisms via a PC.
At least he doesn’t come with an attitude, tell bad jokes, or favor pouring for cute chick as she just cut in, after you’ve been standing there waiting at the bar for 15 minutes.
